Railway Board recognition for Salem Division Electrical Branch Sr Section Engineer


Sir K.R.Suresh Babu, Sr. Section Engineer/Electrical, Karur, of Salem Division, Southern Railway, has been awarded the prestigious Railway Week Award at Railway Board Level and will be receiving the same from the Hon’ble Railway Minister during the All India Railway Week Function to be held in Guwahati on 13th April, 2015. He is the man behind many innovations such as re-using the discarded train lighting Battery for unreserved ticket issue counters’ UPS, the first solar driven pump at Perugumani Railway Station, the first GSM based automatic switching on and switching of railway station water pumps from remote, Energy smart CFL fittings in entire Karur-Trichy Fort and Karur-Dindigul sections, energy efficient LED name boards at Karur, Smart Energy Metering at Karur that will enable remote meter reading and recording, and many other development work by the Electrical General Branch of Salem Division.

Increase of Advance Reservation Period for train tickets from 60 to 120 days

As announced by Hon’ble Minister for Railways during his Budget Speech, the Advance Reservation Period (ARP) is being increased from 60 days to 120 days (excluding the date of journey) with effect from 01.04.2015.  However, there will be no change in the ARP for Special Trains as well as the limit of 360 days in case of foreign tourists.

Electrification of Coimbatore North-Mettupalyam - energisation of overhead lines- warning to public not to go near the electric traction

The track electrification works  in the Coimbatore North-Mettupalayam section with 25 kv ac after has been completed and the overhead line is going to be activated from 12.00 hrs on 21-3-15 and subsequently trials will be conducted using electric locomotive. It is therefore advised to the public that nobody should go near the electric traction in view of high voltage electric lines and to keep off the tracks.
