CLARIFICATION ON REPLACEMENT OF A SLEEPER COACH WITH AIRCONDITIONED COACH IN CERTAIN TRAINS

Reports have appeared in some sections of the media that Southern Railway plans to replace all second class sleeper coaches with AC coaches in a span of five years, attributing the source of such news to a statement made by the General Manager.

In this regard, it is clarified that only due to acute shortage of Second Sleeper coaches, Southern Railway has attached one AC Three Tier coach in the place of a Second Sleeper coach in a few trains and one Second Class Sitting coach in the place of a Second Sleeper Coach in a few other trains with effect from 27th July, 2014. This is a purely temporary measure which will end as soon as second class sleeper coaches are received.

It is once again reiterated that there are no plans whatsoever to replace all second sleeper coaches with AC coaches in mail and express trains.

Change in departure time of Coimbatore-Mannargudi Chemmozhi express and clarification thereof

With effect from 14/07/2014, the departure time of Train no. 16616 Chemmozhi express from Coimbatore has been changed from 11.55 PM in the night to 00.15 mid night. It has been observed that since the train is now leaving at mid night, some passengers have misunderstood the date of departure and missed the train. For example, if a passenger has booked the ticket for Train No.16616 on 25.07.2014, that means that the ticket is for journey at the odd hours of Friday (25.07.2014), in other words after mid night of Thursday (24.07.2014). So, the passengers are hereby advised to keep the above fact in mind while booking tickets as well as planning for boarding the train. For any further clarifications/assistance, the passengers are advised to contact the nearest railway reservation office.
