In a giant stride towards harnessing the green/renewable energy, Salem Division, Southern Railway, has commissioned its first Green Power Railway Station, viz. Athur, today (31.01.2015). The Solar Power Plant of 1.2 KW capacity connected to a Hybrid invertor with battery back up installed in the Athur Station, will provide 24 hours power supply to the unreserved/advanced passenger ticket reservation centers as well as the Station Master’s office. This Solar Plant has been commissioned at a cost of Rs.2.7 lakhs and will replace the existing Diesel Generating power back up system, thus saving considerable amount of generator fuel as well as reduce the carbon footprint.

66th REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATIONS AT SALEM DIVISION, SOUTHERN RAILWAY
The 66th Republic Day was celebrated with gay and
gaiety in the Salem Division of Southern Railway, with Shri Shubhranshu, Divisional Railway Manager, hoisting
the national flag and accepting the guard of honour by the RPF battalion. The
function was attended by the officers & staff of the Salem Division and
their family members in large numbers.
While
addressing the gathering, Shri Shubranshu pointed out that the true celebration
of Republic Day lies in reminding ourselves constantly to protect its tenets
with zeal and vigor with which our soldiers protect our borders and requested
everyone to raise above the feelings of caste, creed, regionalism and other
conflicts to unity.
On
performance of Salem Division, he expressed satisfaction over the fact that
from April, 2014 to December 2014, the Division has earned Rs.466 crores which
is 15.80% higher than the corresponding period last year. Passenger earnings
increased by 18% from 340 crores to 364 crores. On average wagon turn round,
during December 2014, the figure of 1.16 days was achieved by the Division
which is the best ever in the history of Salem Division. In December 2014, 221
BOX N rakes were despatched which again is the best ever performance by Salem
Division, he proudly stated. On punctuality of Express/passenger trains, he
mentioned that Salem Division has improved the same to 93.5% compared to 93%
last year and the Division is striving to improve it further.
On
Cleanliness, Shri Shubhranshu said that from 2nd October, 2014,
onwards, special drives are being launched in every railway premises in Salem
Division, to create awareness among pubic and passengers on keeping the station
and other railway premises including the coaches clean. On
harnessing renewable energy, he said that Salem Division has provided a Solar
Powered System for signals at Pettavaithalai and solar water pump at Perugumani,
which is probably the first such venture in Indian Railways. He
further said that new or additional ticket booking counters have been provided
in Coimbatore, Erode, Tirupur, Karur and Salem. 16 station ticket
booking sevaks have been appointed at 16 halt stations and 9 more will be
appointed shortly, which is the highest in Southern Railway, he
added.
On staff
welfare front, DRM said that selection calendar have been put in place to
provide faster promotions to staff. 24 employees were provided with a relief of
Rs.6 lakhs and Rs. 4.50 Lakhs were paid to 173 wards of Railway Employees who
secured more than 80% marks in the examinations, from the Staff Benefit Fund,
he added. 683 appointments have been made through RRB and RRC and 30 dependents
of deceased employees under compassionate grounds.
He lauded
the excellent service rendered by the Railway Protection Force in protection of
railway property and appreciated the safety organization of Salem Division in
rendering commendable service by conducting various seminars, awareness
campaigns to road users and railwaymen on the safe crossing of Level crossings
as well as safe operation of trains.
A
captivating Dog Show and valour show by the commandants of the RPF staff,
cultural programs by children from Railway Schools and staff of Salem Division
were a fitting finale for the grand Republic Day Celebrations.

Salem Division Railway User’s Consultative Committee (DRUCC) Meeting
The 13th Divisional Railway User’s consultative committee
(DRUCC) meeting of Salem division, Southern Railway was held today (23.01.2015)
at Salem Division office. Shri Shubhranshu, Divisional Railway Manager, Salem
Division & Chairperson, DRUCC/Salem Division presided over the meeting.
Shri. V.Thavamanipandi, Addl. Divisional Railway Manager, Shri. K.P.Damodaran,
Sr.Divisional Commercial Manager & Secretary, DRUCC/Salem Division, Salem
Division officials and 13 newly elected members of the DRUCC from various
places like Salem, Coimbatore, Erode, Karur, Tiruppur, Mettupalayam, Hosur, etc.,
participated in the meeting. An election was conducted among the members for
the Zonal Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (ZRUCC) and Shri C. Balasubramanian
from Coimbatore was elected as a member for ZRUCC from Salem Division. He will
represent Salem Division in the ZRUCC meetings held at Southern Railway Head
Quarters, Chennai.
While addressing the DRUCC members, Shri Shubhranshu, DRM, Salem, stated
that Salem Division is totally committed to the timely operation of trains,
cleanliness of railway premises, and passenger amenities. He mentioned that
sufficient cash imprest has been provided for Station Managers for keeping the
stations clean, in line with Swachch Bharath initiative by the Hon’ble Prime
Minister of India. He added that many new advance ticket booking counters are
being opened in the stations under Salem Division. New station
buildings/extensions are coming up in Salem, Tirupur and Coimbatore North
stations, he further said. As regards the query by the members on introduction
of new trains and additional facilities, he replied that such matters can be
taken up through the Hon’ble Members of Parliament of the respective stations, to
the Ministry of Railways/Parliament. He mentioned that 13 advance ticket booking
counters and 8 Post Office advance ticket booking counters are being operated
by Salem Division in various places. He informed the members that proposals for
installation of escalators in Erode and Salem stations and foot over bridges
(FOBs) in Kodumudi and Sankari stations. He solicited the help from the members
for installing battery operated cars in Tirupur, Erode and Karur, and Medical
Assistance Booths in Coimbatore and Tirupur, for which the DRUCC members
assured to take steps.
The DRUCC members appreciated the efforts taken by Salem Division administration
in ensuring cleanliness and provision of passenger amenities in stations.

To cater to the extra rush of passengers during the Pongal
Season, one second class day coach is being added temporarily in T.No.12678
Ernakulam-Bangaluru Intercity Express on 15.01.2015 from Ernakulam. Likewise, a second class day coach will be added to T.No.12677 Bangaluru Ernakulam Intercity Express on 16.01.2015 from Bangaluru.

To cater to the extra rush of passenger during

T.No.11013 Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (Kurla)-Coimbatore Express on 16.01.2015 and
17.01.2015 from Lokmanya Tilak (Kurla) Terminus and to Train
No.11014 Coimbatore-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (Kurla) Express on
18.01.2015 and 19.01.2015 from Coimbatore, respectively.

Premium Coimbatore- Chennai Central-Coimbatore Superfast Special Train via Salem, Erode and Tirupur & Temporary increase in number of coaches in Chennai Central-Palani-Chennai Central Express
1. Train No.00609 Chennai Central –Coimbatore PREMIUM
superfast special train will leave Chennai Central at 21.50 hrs. on
13.01.2015,&14.01.2015 and arrive Coimbatore at 05.10 hrs. the
next day. The train will stop at Katpadi, Jolarpettai, Salem, Erode & Tiruppur.
2. Train No.06017 Coimbatore – Chennai Central Super-fast Day special
train will leave Coimbatore at 09.20 hrs. on 14.01.2015 &
15.01.2015 and arrive Chennai Central at 17.35 hrs.
on the same day. The
train will stop at Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Bommidi, Morappur, Jolarpettai, Vaniyambadi, Ambur, Katpadi, Arakkonam
& Perambur.
The composition of the above trains will be 3 AC 2-tier, 2 AC
3-tier, 1 AC Chair Car 14 sleeper class and 2 luggage-cum-brake van coaches.
Advance reservation for the above trains will commence
on 08-01-2015.
Temporary increase in the number of coaches
Train No.22651/22652 Chennai
Central-Palani-Chennai Central expresses will be temporarily augmented i.e one
Sleeper Class Coach will be added to the existing rake from Chennai
Central from 09.01.2015 to 17.01.2015 and from Palani from 10.01.2015 to
18.01.2015.

Continuation of Partial/Full cancellation of Passenger Train services between Salem and Mettur Dam up to 12.03.2015
Due to continuation of track maintenance works, the services of Train Nos.56100/56101 Erode-Salem-Mettur Dam Passenger Trains are partially cancelled between Salem and Mettur Dam, and Train Nos.56102/56103 Salem-Mettur Dam Passenger Trains are fully cancelled up to 12.03.2015. Train Nos.56100/56101 Erode-Salem-Mettur Dam Passenger Trains will be operated between Erode and Salem only, during this period.
