The 66th Republic Day was celebrated with gay and
gaiety in the Salem Division of Southern Railway, with Shri Shubhranshu, Divisional Railway Manager, hoisting
the national flag and accepting the guard of honour by the RPF battalion. The
function was attended by the officers & staff of the Salem Division and
their family members in large numbers.
While
addressing the gathering, Shri Shubranshu pointed out that the true celebration
of Republic Day lies in reminding ourselves constantly to protect its tenets
with zeal and vigor with which our soldiers protect our borders and requested
everyone to raise above the feelings of caste, creed, regionalism and other
conflicts to unity.
On
performance of Salem Division, he expressed satisfaction over the fact that
from April, 2014 to December 2014, the Division has earned Rs.466 crores which
is 15.80% higher than the corresponding period last year. Passenger earnings
increased by 18% from 340 crores to 364 crores. On average wagon turn round,
during December 2014, the figure of 1.16 days was achieved by the Division
which is the best ever in the history of Salem Division. In December 2014, 221
BOX N rakes were despatched which again is the best ever performance by Salem
Division, he proudly stated. On punctuality of Express/passenger trains, he
mentioned that Salem Division has improved the same to 93.5% compared to 93%
last year and the Division is striving to improve it further.
On
Cleanliness, Shri Shubhranshu said that from 2nd October, 2014,
onwards, special drives are being launched in every railway premises in Salem
Division, to create awareness among pubic and passengers on keeping the station
and other railway premises including the coaches clean. On
harnessing renewable energy, he said that Salem Division has provided a Solar
Powered System for signals at Pettavaithalai and solar water pump at Perugumani,
which is probably the first such venture in Indian Railways. He
further said that new or additional ticket booking counters have been provided
in Coimbatore, Erode, Tirupur, Karur and Salem. 16 station ticket
booking sevaks have been appointed at 16 halt stations and 9 more will be
appointed shortly, which is the highest in Southern Railway, he
added.
On staff
welfare front, DRM said that selection calendar have been put in place to
provide faster promotions to staff. 24 employees were provided with a relief of
Rs.6 lakhs and Rs. 4.50 Lakhs were paid to 173 wards of Railway Employees who
secured more than 80% marks in the examinations, from the Staff Benefit Fund,
he added. 683 appointments have been made through RRB and RRC and 30 dependents
of deceased employees under compassionate grounds.
He lauded
the excellent service rendered by the Railway Protection Force in protection of
railway property and appreciated the safety organization of Salem Division in
rendering commendable service by conducting various seminars, awareness
campaigns to road users and railwaymen on the safe crossing of Level crossings
as well as safe operation of trains.
A
captivating Dog Show and valour show by the commandants of the RPF staff,
cultural programs by children from Railway Schools and staff of Salem Division
were a fitting finale for the grand Republic Day Celebrations.
