Under
the “Swachch Rail, Swachch Bharat” (Clean Railways, Clean India) campaign, a
survey was conducted by Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation
(IRCTC), among the passengers in A1 (the stations that earn above Rs.60 crores
per annum revenue) and A (the stations that earn between Rs.5 crores and Rs.60
crores revenue per annum) category railway stations, providing various
parameters. Cleanliness in 407 stations
requesting passengers to grade them from 1 for very good to 5 for below
average.
IRCTC
has now submitted its final reports. According to the report, out of the 407
stations, 105 stations were rated at Cleanliness Levels 1 & 2, 166 stations
at Level 3 and 136 stations in Levels 4 & 5. Among the 17 zones of Indian
Railways, 3 zones viz. Western, South Western and Southern Railway have been
rated as the best zones.
1. In the Survey, in the ratings for the Railway Stations in Divisional
Head Quarters, Salem Junction has been ranked No.1
2. Salem Junction has also been rated among the top 10 cleanest
railway stations and has been ranked as the 9th Cleanest Railway
station among the A1 and A category stations all over Indian Railways.
3. In
the ratings for the cleanest Divisions, Salem Division, Southern
Railway, has been ranked as the 4th cleanest Division among
the 68 Indian Railway Divisions.
4. In
the rating for stations that handle 10,000-25,000 passengers per day, Salem
Junction has been ranked at No.3, with Erode Junction at No.5.
