Surprise “fortress” ticket checking drive by Salem Division in the Salem-Jolarpet Section today (24.10.2016)



A surprise “Fortress” ticket checking drive (where passengers through all entry and exit points in the respective en route stations will be checked extensively) was conducted by the Commercial Branch Officials under the leadership of Sri Viju Vin, Divisional Commercial Manger, Salem Division, Southern Railway, today (24.10.2016), in T.No. 56485 Jolarpet Erode Passenger Train in between Lokur and Danishpet Railway Stations in the Jolarpet-Salem Section. 20  ticket checking staff along with 31 Railway Protection Force staff were involved in the exercise. 55 cases were booked for ticketless travelling, resulting in collection of fine to the tune of Rs.15,390/- Salem Division Commercial Branch is planning to conduct such surprise checks on a regular basis in future as well and such offenders will be arrested and produced before the Railway Magistrate, Chennai, under Section 137 of Indian Railways Act, under which the offence is punishable by imprisonment up to a term of 6 months and/or with fine of up to Rs.1000/-

Suvidha Deepavali Special Trains between Coimbatore and Chennai Central on 27.10.2016 and 28.10.2016


To cater to the demand for operation of special trains during Deepavali for the convenience of passengers, the following Suvidha Special Trains are being operated between Coimbatore and Chennai Central by Southern Railway:

T.No. 82629 Chennai Central Coimbatore Suvidha Special Train starting from Chennai Central on 27.10.2016 at 20.30 hrs and reaching Coimbatore on 28.10.2016 at 04.15 hrs. The train will stop at Arakonam, Katpadi, Jolarpet, SALEM, ERODE, TIRUPPUR and COIMBATORE NORTH.

T.No. 06032 Coimbatore Chennai Central Special Fare Special Train starting from Coimbatore on 28.10.2016 at 06.50 hrs and reaching Chennai Central the same day itself (on 28.10.2016) at 15.35 hrs. The train will stop at TIRUPPUR, ERODE, SALEM, Jolarpet , Katpadi, Arakonam, and Perambur

Composition:  AC 3-tier – 1, Sleeper Class – 9, General Second Class – 6 & Luggage-cum-brake van – 2 coaches.

The advance Bookings for the above trains start tomorrow (23.10.2016) at 8.00 hrs.

Extension of Erode-Chennai Egmore-Erode Special Trains upto Coimbatore as Deepavali Special Trains on 28.10.2016 & 29.10.2016



With a view to clear extra rush of traffic during Deepavali festival, T. No. 06028 Chennai Egmore-Erode  Special fare special train from Chennai Egmore on 28.10.2016 will be extended to Coimbatore and in the return direction, it will be operated as T.No. 06027 Coimbatore Chennai Egmore Special fare special train from Coimbatore on 30.10.2016. Timings over extended portion are given below.

Closure of Foot Over Bridge entry/exit through the stairs in PF No.5 of Salem Junction


Since the construction works for the second entry to the Salem Junction is being taken up at present, the staircase in PF No.5 to reach the Foot Over Bridge in Salem Junction, is being closed from 14.10.2016 to 27.10.2016, with a view to facilitate the preliminary works. Hence, passengers are requested to make use of the existing subway to reach PF No.5, during the above period.

Change in the operation of Coimbatore-Nagercoi-Coimbatore Passenger Trains from 01.10.2016 to 10.11.2016


Due to track maintenance works by Madurai Division, in the Madurai-Virudhunagar Section, from 01.10.2016 to 10.11.2016 (except Thursdays)  the following trains will be delayed, due to diversion via Virudhunagar, Manamadurai and Madurai.

1.                   T.No. 56319 Nagercoil-Coimbatore passenger will reach Dindigul 57 minutes at 16.07 hrs. and will be delayed in the en-route stations up to and at Coimbatore.  
2.                  T.No. 56320 Coimbatore –Nagercoil  passenger will reach Tirunelveli 44 minutes at 19.09  hrs. and will be delayed in the en-route stations up to and at Nagercoil.

Retirees’ Meet held by Salem Division, Southern Railway, today (07.10.2016)

Southern Railway, Salem Division, conducted the “Pensioners-to be meet”, an awareness program for the retiring employees of Salem Division, today (10.07.2016) at the Railway Kalyana Mandapam, Erode. 107 employees who are retiring  till March 2017,  attended the same. This is the second such meet conducted by Salem Division, in the current calendar year.  

Sri Chandrapal, Addl. Divisional Railway Manager, Salem Division, presided over the program and addressed the retirees. He said that railway administration is interested in the welfare of both the serving and retired employees, and Salem Division, Southern Railway is taking all necessary steps to see the grievances of retirees are redressed effectively, by way of conducting Pension Adalats, etc. He added that the Railway Hospitals in Salem Division are also providing proper medical care to a sizable number of retired railway employees and their family members.

A special health care camp was also held during the program arranged by Dr. M. Narasimham, Additional Chief Medical Superintendant, Salem Division, with the assistance of 24 Care Hospital, Erode & Vasan Eye and Dental Care Centre, Erod. Blood sugar (including HbA1C test), kidney functioning test, urine test and hypertension tests were conducted for the retiring railway employees and suitable medical advice and medicines were provided. Sri Sukumaran, Asst. Health Education Officer, Southern Railway, Chennai, participated in the program and interacted with the retirees. Financial experts from LIC of India, SBI Mutual Funds and Indian Postal Department  participated in the program to provide tips for handling their retirement benefits safely and prudently. Copies of the service records and leave particulars were provided to the retirees with a view to apprise them of the leave they are entitled for encashment, etc.

Officers and staff  from the Medical, Personnel and  Accounts  Department  of the Salem Division, had arranged the program.

Sri N. Velumani, Asst. Personnel Officer, Salem, proposed the vote of thanks. Earlier, Sri G. Janarthanan, Divisional Personnel Officer, Salem, welcomed the gathering.
