With a view to create awareness
among general public and the train passengers on the risks of going near the
electrical structures/poles in the railway premises and climbing on top of the
stationed/moving locomotives/coaches/wagons, with a view to prevent the loss of
lives due to electrocution, Salem Division, Southern Railway, is conducting an
Awareness Campaign for 3 days from 23.04.2015 to 25.04.2015, in all the railway
stations of Salem Division, starting from Tirupattur to Podhanur, covering
about 73 stations and level crossings. The Safety Propaganda Van was
flagged off from the Salem Divisional Office by Shri.Shubhranshu, Divisional
Railway Manager, Salem, today(23rd April, 2015).
After flagging off the Electrical Safety Propaganda van,
during interaction with media persons, Shri
Shubhranshu stated that the accident records of Salem Division due to
electrocution was impeccable with only 3 deaths during 2014-15, that too
because of the fact that the persons involved in the mishaps were mentally
unstable. He said that due to lack of awareness only, accidents take place, and
as a preventive step, this Awareness Campaign is being taken up by Salem
Division. He further stated that in these 3 days, the
Safety Campaign Van will travel to all the stations in Salem Division and will
interact with the general public to educate them on the risks of going near the
electrified tractions, climbing over the electric locomotives, climbing or
touching the traction poles/structures, by way of distribution of Pocket
Calendars/Student Scales carrying Safety Messages and Pamphlets, etc.,
