Change in the Operation of Trains pass through Salem Division from 25.11.2017 to 01.01.2018

With a view to facilitate track maintenance works between Tiuppur and Uthukuli, the following changes are made in the operation of trains passing through Salem Division, from 25.11.2017 to 01.01.2018:

Holiday Home and Officers’ Rest House at Yercaud dedicated by Salem Division, Southern Railway today (14.11.2017)








As part of the various steps by the Salem Division, Southern Railway, for the welfare of both serving and retired railway employees, the Staff Holiday Home and the Officers’ Rest House developed at Yercaud, was declared open today (14.11.2017), for the use of both retired and serving railway employees and officers.  The Holiday Home and Officers’ Rest House facility was dedicated by Sri A. Ramachandran, Asst. Divisional Engineer, Salem Division, in the presence of Sri Hari Shankar Verma, DRM, Smt Anita Verma, President, Southern Railway Women’s’ Welfare organisation, Salem, Sri Chandrapal, ADRM, Smt Kusum Lata, Vice President, SRWWO, Dr. M. Narasimham, Chief Medical Superintendant, Salem Division, Sri Perumal Nandalal, Sr. Divl Engineer, Dr. S. Uma Maheswari, Sr. Divl. Finance Manager, Sri M. Prabhakaran, Sr. Divl Electrical Engineer,  Sri LN Sivanath Babu, Sr. Divl Signal and Telecom Engineer, Sri A. Vijuvin, Sr. Divl Commercial Manager,  Sri. M. Mariappan, Divl Engineer, Sri BDG Sundar Rao, Asst. Material Manager, other officers and staff of Salem Division. The Holiday Home/Officers’ Rest House have been  developed at a cost of Rs. 30 lakhs in the erstwhile Micro Wave Tower premises in Yercaud which has become defunct for a decade now, with the advent of advanced telecommunication channels. To tap green and clean energy sources, solar powered lamps have been fitted in the Holiday Home premises. 

Sri Verma said that the facility that was dedicated today has been a long pending demand for a few decades now, from the railway employees who wanted to have such a Holiday Home in Yercaud which is termed as the ‘Poor Man’s Ooty’. He further stated that two Holiday Homes and three Rest House Rooms herein have been provided with all required furniture and cooking facilities, along with a team of caretakers available round the clock to assist the railway employees and officers visiting Yercaud. He expressed the hope that the facility will be found useful by the staff and officers both serving and retired, to have a break with their families.

Change in the operation of trains in the Salem-Jolarpet Section on 17.11.2017 and 18.11.2017


Due to conversion of a Bridge from Steel Girder to Concrete, situated in between Danishpet and Lokur in the  Salem-Jolarpet Section, the following trains will be delayed for 10 minutes at Danishpet, on 17.11.2017 and 18.11.2017.

Operation of Coimbatore-Chennai Central-Coimbatore Cheran Express trains with modern LHB Coaches from 10.11.2017



As part of the exercise by Indian Railways to make the train travel safer and comfortable, the conventional coaches of trains are being replaced with the modern LHB (Linke Hoffman Busche) coaches with advanced safety and passenger friendly features.

Now, with the efforts of the DRM, Salem, Sri Hari Shankar Verma, the conventional coached rake of T. Nos. 12673/12674 Coimbatore-Chennai Central-Coimbatore Cheran Express are being replaced with modern LHB coaches with increased seating capacity.

The Cheran Express fitted with LHB Coaches will be operated from Coimbatore from 10.11.2017 onwards and from Chennai Central from 11.11.2017 onwards. Two rakes of 22 Coach  LHB formation have been  allotted for Salem Division for this purpose that will be maintained by the Coach & Wagon Depot at Coimbatore.

Apart from the increased seating capacity, the LHB Coaches have been fitted with Bio-toilets, better suspension for smoother travel, Centre Buffer Couplers with anti-climbing features in case of a train collision or mishap, and better insulation to reduce noise levels inside the coaches. These aesthetically designed stainless steel coaches have been provided with better features such as fire-retardant fittings, larger windows for better visibility, modular designed interior with no visible screws inside the coaches, ergonomically designed seats, anti-skid PVC Floorings, automatic sliding doors in inter-coach vestibules, etc.,
