About Salem Division

THE DIVISION

Salem Division, under Southern Railway, is the 68th Division of Indian Railways. The Salem Division, carved out of Palakkad, Madurai and Tiruchirappalli Divisions, has started functioning from 1st November, 2007, and has completed six years since then.

            This youngest division of Southern Railway, serves 14 districts of Tamil Nadu, with its 99 stations,  covering a distance of 862 route kilometres, of which, 337 kilometres have been electrified. The Salem-Karur BG link via Namakkal, has been commissioned on 25.05.2013 and several trains are being operated in the sector, including Chennai-Palani Express and 2 pairs of passenger trains on daily basis. With its 145 passenger trains, Salem Division serves about 1,12,550 originating passengers every day.
