Women’s day was celebrated at Salem Division, Southern Railway, today (10th March 2015). Sri Shubhranshu, Divisional Railway Manager, Salem, presided over the function and Smt Jyotsna Prasad, President, Southern Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation, participated in the function as the Chief Guest. Sri D. Umanath, Addl. General Manager, State Bank India, was the Guest of Honour. During his address to the gathering of Salem Division Officials and Women employees, Shri Shubhranshu, said that though Women’s Day celebration was a western concept, India has adopted it, as it is a country that worships women as the Mother Goddess. He further said that though there is a general concept that today’s society is unsafe for women, if women come forward boldly, this situation can certainly be changed and men also should come forward to support women in a big way. Women should demand more so that not only a particular day, but everyday could be a Women’s day, he added. During her speech, Smt. Jyotsna Prasad said that without women, the civilization would not have reached today’s levels. Women’s empowerment in its full sense would be a real celebration of Women’s day, she said. Later, Sri V. Thavamani Pandi, Addl. Divisional Railway Manager, Salem Division, gave away the prizes to the winners of various competitions held among women employees such as vegetable decoration, Sudoku, Singing, Drawing, Rangoli, etc., Women employees, officers of Salem Division and their family members participated in the function in large numbers.
