Chief Commercial Manager, Southern Railway participates in the Cleanliness Campaign held at Salem Junction






As part of Indian Railways’ Customer Facilitation Fortnight being observed from 26.05.2015 to 09.06.2015, Salem Division, Southern Railway is conducting various programs including Cleanliness Campaigns in all the Railway Stations in Salem Division. In the Cleanliness Campaign conducted today (02.06.2015) at Salem Junction, Smt Sarla Balagopal, Chief Commercial Manager, Southern Railway, participated in the activities, along with Shri Shubhranshu, Divisional Railway Manager, Salem.

Volunteers from Sri Gokulam College of Nursing, Salem, took up cleaning of the Salem Junction premises along with the officers and staff of Salem Division. A Cleanliness Pledge was administered to the volunteers assuring the keep the railway station premises and surroundings clean and tidy and to guide everyone to help in keeping them clean always. Smt Sarla Balagopal and Shri Shubhranshu also joined the cadres and volunteers in the cleaning activities.

Thereafter, Smt Sarla Balagopal, inspected the station premises and interacted with the passengers. She also inspected the newly installed Automated Ticket Vending Machine in the Salem Junction and asked the passengers to make the maximum use of the ATVMs to reduce the last minute rush in the unreserved ticket counters. She also handed over mementos to the volunteers who participated in the cleaning activities.

Addressing the media persons, Smt. Sarla Balagopal said that 15 ATVMs have been installed in 9 stations of Salem Division and they are getting very good response in all the stations. She said that the 5% bonus value added to the card at the time of recharge is an added advantage for purchase of unreserved tickets, platform tickets and renewal season tickets, apart from avoiding long queues in the ticket counters.  She added that for the first time in India, Southern Railway has launched a mobile application for purchase tickets for the suburban trains in Chennai, which has received very wide welcome among the commuters, and said that the facility will be expanded to other Divisions also in phases. She also expressed her satisfaction on the performance of Salem Division, on various fronts, including revenue and customer facilitation by way of adding amenities to passengers in all the stations.
