CLEANLINESS DRIVE BY SALEM DIVISION SOUTHERN RAILWAY

A two week Cleanliness Drive was organized by Salem Division of Southern Railway, from 06.06.2014 to 20.06.2014.  As part of the program, major thrust was given at the following areas for improved cleanliness.
1.  Circulating area and Concourse area 
2.  Sub-ways and Foot over bridges
3.  Waiting rooms/halls and Retiring Rooms
4.  Refreshment rooms
5.  Platforms and drainages
6.  Toilets on platforms
7.  Water booths

10 Major stations viz. Podanur, Coimbatore Jn., Coimbatore North, Mettupalayam, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Karur,  Tiruppatur  & Namakkal, and 2 minors stations viz. Chinna Salem & Salem Town, were identified for close monitoring by nominating  officers.  The nominated officers personally carried out inspection to identify the areas requiring improvement.  Based on their reports Station Managers and Health Inspectors along with other supervising officials carried out intensive cleaning to bring out perpetual change. User awareness was also targeted through displaying of banners seeking the co-operation of passengers to maintain the station clean.  Students and NGOs were also roped in to participate in the campaign by intensive cleaning activity and distributing the pamphlets to rail users.

 As part of this Cleanliness Drive, a massive campaign was carried out in Salem Junction today (20.06.2014) by the Salem Division officials and staff lead by Shri V. Thavamani Pandi, Addl. Divisional Railway Manager,  accompanied by Shri Ma.Vignavelu, Sr. Divl. Engineer/Co-ordination and Shri.K.P.Damodaran, Sr. Divl. Commercial Manager, Salem Division. Volunteers from Sri Vinayaka Mission Medical College, Salem, participated in the campaign, in large numbers. They distributed notices among passengers emphasizing their co-operation in keeping the station premises clean.
